Historically there were apple orchards in this area throughout the late
1800s and early 1900s.

This is a nicely maintained old tree - full of fruit.

particularly photogenic

This crab sits beside the magnolia pictured below (there is an old liburnum and dying lilac
nearby)

- Copper beech 1125 The Stables

- Copper beech Alexander and Lakeshore
Dates to late 1880s. Imported by Alexander Robertson from Stirling, Scotland who
acquired an estate (Beardsley's Grove) in 1850 and built a house at 76
Alexander Drive. It is in poor health but worth seeing. See mention of
it in Francis Ahern's Book, Oakville a Small Town (p. 90).

Not a healthy tree but very interesting and photogenic.

rare (this is a nominee from last year - but is producing fruit this year).
- Black cherry - West Oak Trail South West
180cm quite old
- Cottonwood by the harbour 97 Forsythe
very tall 35m?
- Cottonwood Kings Wood Park accessed from Baldwin
273cm circumference - probably not that old, but a lovely specimen. (Note Kings Wood Park has some statuesque white pine and
lovely stands of black cherry and paper birch)
- Tree reaches height of bridge Glen Abbey Golf Course
must hike down to verify species and measure height. The tall tree by the
hwy 5 bridge has also been nominated, but I have yet to reach it.

29 trees. Some are the native species with lovely long thorns and awesome
bark - great to photograph

Dates to 1800s and is described by Francis Robin Ahern Oakville: A
small town 1900-30.
- Cucumber magnolia 322 Gloucester
not an old tree but certainly worth photographing - Carolinian species
- Striped maple 222 Tavistock

- Silver maple Seneca and West Streets are lined with great old trees

This very tall tree 35m was used by surveyors to lay out the Town. Gorgeous
old pine on property too.
